Manage Xero TaxCode List

Updated over 2 years ago

Description

This document explains how to manage TaxCode List.

Detail Steps

Xero provides TWO options for Tax Code lists – Simple and Advanced. The simple option restricts the selection of Tax options to SIX as shown below.

Advanced Tax options are designed for companies undertaking more complex business operations – for example, purchasing Capital Assets or Importing / Exporting.

It is recommended that the Advanced Tax Option is selected even if you are not currently using the additional tax methods. Note also that Customised TaxCodes can be created in Xero for LOCALISED or REGION tax accounting requirements. In this case, the NAME of the TAXCODE will need to be specified by your DATAPEL implementation consultant as it must contain a special SHORTCUT for use in Datapel WMS.

As noted previously, the Datapel WMS uses SHORTCUT codes rather than the verbose terminology shown in the Xero setup. In addition, as the tax code usually defaults based on the Product, Service or Contact, it is not typical that the user is required to modify this field.

In the case where the user needs to modify the Tax Code when creating a transaction in WMS, the following Xero Tax Codes map to WMS Short-Cut codes as below:

For customised Tax Codes, please discuss prior to GoLive / Implementation to ensure mapping is managed correctly.
